SCHOLARSHIP

 

 

Application for scholarship

 

Members and children of members who have started college in 2004 are eligible and encouraged to apply.  The topic of this years essay is Jeremiah O'Donovan Rossa.  Please note:  All applications, essays and SAT scores must be received no later than November 30th, 2004.

 

The following is a basic format for the County Cork BP&P Association Scholarship Program and is intended for the guidance of all members and children of members who may be eligible to participate in the competition.

The competition will be open to all members in good standing of the County Cork BP&P Association as of October 15, 2004 as well as their children who were 2004 graduating high school seniors.

The winners of the competition can receive scholarship tuition ranging from $1,000 to $2,500.  This money will be paid directly to the college or accredited institution of higher knowledge at which the entrant is accepted, for tuition only.

 

The competition will be based on SAT scores of 2004 for which one scholarship will be awarded.  Additional scholarships will be awarded by lottery.

 

To apply for the competition, fully completed application forms (available by contacting the Association) together with essays must be sent by U.S. mail to the President, County Cork BP&P Association, 33-01 Greenpoint Avenue, Long Island City, NY 11101, and must be received no later than November 30th, 2004.

 

Writing an essay is a requirement for entering the competition and there will be a special award for the best one.  The essay will not have any impact on the participant’s evaluation.  The awards will be based on SAT scores or names chosen in the lottery. 

 

Receipts of entries will be acknowledged if the entrant encloses a self-addressed stamped envelope along with the application.

 

Entrants must comply with all the rules regarding the scholarship competition or face disqualification.  Additionally, any information supplied by entrants found to be untrue will result in disqualification.  Disqualification will be made only by majority vote of the Scholarship Committee.

 

Competition will open on October 15, 2004 and will close at midnight November 30th, 2004.

 

Winners will be announced at the Annual Awards Dinner – in January 2005.

 

All eligible members and all children of members who were graduating high school seniors in 2004 are urged to take advantage of this opportunity to win financial assistance towards their continuing education.

RULES AND REGULATIONS

 

AWARDS - The awards will consist of scholarships ranging between $1,000 - $2,500.  Awards may be used for tuition only and will be paid directly to the college or accredited institution of higher knowledge at which the awardee is accepted.

 

ELIGIBILITY - The scholarships are open to members in good standing as of October 15, 2004 and to the children of members in good standing graduation high school in 2004.

The applicant must have completed high school and must submit SAT scores for 2004 and an essay in order to quality for scholarship.

 

ESSAY RULES - The subject of the essay is Jeremiah O'Donovan Rossa.  The essay must be at least 1,000 words and must be typewritten and double spaced on 81/2 x 11 paper.  The title must be placed at the top of the paper.  Entrant's name or any other identifying marks will not appear on the essay paper.  A bibliography of sources for the essay material must be attached to the essay.  Each essay must be the sole work of the entrant.  All essays received become the property of the Association and may be printed in the future using the contestant's name.

 

JUDGING - The judges will be selected annually by the Scholarship Committee.  They will be comprised of scholars and leaders in the community who are not members of the Association.  The decision of the judges will be final.  The decision will be made, judged on style, organization and content.

 

DISQUALIFICATION - Entrants must comply with all the rules regarding the scholarship competition or be subject to disqualification.  Disqualification will be made only by the majority vote of the Scholarship Committee and will be final and binding.  Any information supplied by entrants found to be untrue will result in disqualification.

 

APPLICATION - Fully completed application forms and a copy of the SAT scores must accompany all essays.  All applications must be sent by U.S. mail to the President, County Cork BP&P Association, 33-01 Greenpoint Avenue, Long Island City, NY 11101, and must be received no later than November 30, 2004.

RECEIPT OF ENTRIES - The word "Scholarship" must be written in the lower left hand corner of the envelope used to send all entries.  Receipt of entries will be acknowledged only if a self-addressed, stamped envelope is enclosed.
